    1. Get the “big mattress” fitting mattress cover. It’s a good investment, as it’s easily removed and washed, and the memory foam is NOT easily cleaned.

    2. It might be helpful. Try and think about what it is that is uncomfortable about your matress. Is it because it sinks in? if so, the topper won’t help, it will just sink with the mattress. Or is it because the top layer of padding has worn out? in which case a topper might help. Be aware that not all memory foams and foams in general are created equal. Some will compress or break down very quickly, others will last longer. It is worth paying for one that has a warranty, as manufacturers will not offer a warranty unless they know their product will perform. Additionally think about the density of foam that you want, there are a range of different densities of foam, some are so soft that with any weight on them, they compress and therefore offer little comfort. Also consider if memory foam is right for you, or whether a standard foam is more suitable. Some people really like the feel of memory foam, others strongly dislike it. Memory foam will reduce your ability to move around the bed, and somewhat conforms your shape. Standard foams can also be very comfortable. Whatever your decision is, it is always best to try the product first, see if there is somewhere that you can view the product and try lying on it.

    3. Making an old mattress more comfortable does not change the fact that it is old and probably worn out. You may be looking for something that mattress cannot give you causing you to throw good money after bad.

It is no different than painting over a rusty car body. It is still a rusty car that the paint won’t stick to very long and soon the rust will rear its ugly look and show through again very quickly.

If budget is a concern you may be better off buying a less expensive mattress and replacing it more frequently than busting your budget on a really expensive one.
